Behind The Lens with Henry Diltz and Pattie Boyd

Diltz is currently on a US tour and the show consists off a live presentation of still and moving images that go behind the scenes of many of his covers.

Two of my favourite hobbies in life is collecting vinyl records and photography and it turns out they share a great history. Many established photographers including Robert Frank, Irving Penn, William Wegman, Weegee and Brassaï are responsible for some of the most influential and inspiring artwork found on record sleeves, but no photographer has produced as many as Henry Diltz. Diltz has over four hundred album covers under his belt and is behind some of “the most important music photography of all time”.

A musician himself in the 60s for the Modern Folk Quartet, Diltz discovered his love for photography during this time when he met The Monkees and photographed some of their recording sessions – many of which were published. His growing reputation saw him become the official photographer at Woodstock, Monterey and Miami Music Festivals – shooting the likes of The Doors, Crosby, Stills & Nash, the Rolling Stones and James Taylor.

The Behind The Lens tour is a collaboration with fellow music photographer Pattie Boyd, who talks about her personal stories, her time with the Beatles (George Harrison was her first husband before she fell for Eric Clapton) and the London scene…
On describing the show Diltz, ‘If I am the meat and potato of the show, Patty is the dessert, the cherry on top.’
